Greta Thunbergin ympärillä käytävä keskustelu on vellonut kuumana sen jälkeen, kun 16-vuotias aktivisti piti puheensa YK:n ilmastokokouksessa New Yorkissa.
Kriitikot ovat pitäneet puhetta ylidramaattisena, laskelmoituna ja liian syyttävänä, kun sen kannattajat näkevät voiman toistuvassa “how dare you” -lauseessa ja uskovat puheen jäävän historiaan yhtenä merkittävimmistä aikamme puheista. Harmi, ettei kukaan puhu puheen sisällöstä ja vaatimuksista.
Parhaat puheet muistetaan. Hieman kornilta tuntuva suunnitelmallisuus voi jo vuoden päästä olla syy, miksi puhetta toistetaan yhä uudestaan Youtubesta.
Puheviestinnän professori Pekka Isotalus vertaa Aamulehdessä Thunbergin puhetta Martin Luther Kingin legendaariseen “I have dream” -esiintymiseen. Hän arvioi myös, että puheesta saattaa tulla opetellun tuntuinen vaikutelma.
“Puhe on harjoitellun ja suunnitellun oloinen. Siinä mielessä saattaa tulla hieman epäaito vaikutelma ja tunne siitä, että puhe on laskelmoitu”, Isotalus sanoo.
Ajatus tai pikemmin syytös siitä, että “tiedot on saatu ulkopuolelta”, kuten Isotalus muotoilee, on outo. Pulushakki tulee helposti mieleen Thunbergin ympärillä käytävästä keskustelusta.
Voisiko olla, että kyseessä on loputon väsytystaistelu, jossa lykätään itse aiheesta eli ilmastonmuutoksen vastaisista toimista puhumista?
Keskustelu kulkee usein samaa rataa. Aihetta käsittelevään ketjuun ilmaantuu paikalle henkilö, joka säälii Gretaa ja kertoo olevansa huolissaan tämän puolesta. Näin häneltä riisutaan itsenäinen toimijuus.
Sen jälkeen on syyllistämisen aika. Joskus syyttävä sormi osoittaa Gretan perheeseen, mutta useimmiten johonkin epämääräiseen ja mystiseen tahoon, jota ei nimetä, mutta jonka väitetään käyttävän Gretaa törkeästi hyväksi.

En pysty kommentoimaan juuta enkä jaata tähänkään, mutta kysyn: eikö ilmastonmuutosta silti kannattaisi koettaa hidastaa? Eikö hiilidioksidia kannattaisi poistaa ilmasta, eikö kuudetta sukupuuttoaaltoa pitäisi yrittää jarruttaa? Herrattu sentään, kai jotakin kannattaa tehdä, jos miljoonakaupunkeja uhkaa vedenpaisumus”, Juntti kirjoittaa.
Vähättelijän taktiikka on täydellinen, jos tarkoituksena on siirtää huomion muualle ilmastonmuutoksen vastaisista toimista ja Thunbergin viestin ytimestä eli siitä, miten “aikuisten” maailma on ollut kyvytön tekemään minkäänlaisia isoja korjausliikkeitä ilmastonmuutoksen suhteen.
