Oletteko sattuneet huomaamaan sellaista pientä asiaa, että Suomessa ollaan usein vaatimattomia? Kyllä, totta se on! Uskokaa pois. Vaatimattomuus kaikille sallittakoon, mutta jos sitä aletaan vaatia muiltakin, syntyy ongelma. Olen törmännyt usein sellaiseen, että jos olen tyytyväinen itseeni, muut kokevat sen jotenkin vääräksi. Olen itserakas, omahyväinen tai jopa ilkeä. Ilkeä?! En sano muista ihmisistä mitään, jos sanon olevani kiva, nätti tai fiksu. Tai hyvä jossakin. Sen ei pitäisi koskettaa ketään muuta mitenkään. En tajua, miten siitä, että olen tyytyväinen itseeni, voi joku toinen sydänjuuriaan myöten loukkaantua.
Luin laatujournalistisesta julkaisusta (Iltalehdestä) hyvin luotettavasta ja totuudellisesta tutkimuksesta (Doven "hyväksy itsesi ja osta meiltä saippuaa!" -kampanjaan liittyvästä), että naisista vain neljä prosenttia pitää itseään kauniina. Mitä hittoa, naiset?? Tietenkään tähän tutkimukseen ei voi suoraan uskoa, mutta kyllä se pisti miettimään, miten paljon minunkin lähipiirissäni on naisia, jotka vinkuvat turhasta.
Jos ei itse pysty olemaan tyytyväinen itseensä tai jos ei kehtaa sanoa sitä ääneen, voi kokea uhaksi sen, että joku toinen siihen kykenee. Mutta ei hätää! Nyt kerron kaikille, miten onnistun ajattelemaan itsestäni näin positiivisesti. Älä enää katkerana harakkana kyräile toisten napoja, ryhdy rehellisesti ja ylpeästi tuijottamaan omaasi! Iltalehden artikkelissa oli aivan paskaa liibalaabaa, älä usko sitä. Minä tarjoan teille nyt ihan konkreettisia asioita, joita voitte alkaa toteuttaa. Avain itsensä rakastamiseen tässä karmeassa, vaativassa ja tuomitsevassa yhteiskunnassa on valikoiva ajattelu, ajatuksien aktiivinen muokkaaminen ja armoton itsepetos: toista asiaa tarpeeksi kauan, ja se muuttuu todeksi.
Näin helppoa se on:
1. Etkö ole tyytyväinen siihen, mitä peilissä näet? Vaihda peiliä! En koskaan katso eteisen peilistä itseäni takaapäin, koska siinä takapuoleni ei näytä kovin hyvältä. Peili siis valehtelee. Sen sijaan katselen pyllyäni aina kampauspöytäni peilistä, koska se näyttää siinä ihan törkeän hyvältä. Tämä peili kertoo totuuden, tietysti. Uskon siis mieluummin kampauspöytäni peiliä. Ongelma ratkaistu! Valmiina baanalle.

2. Onko sinulla jokin ruumiinosa, joka ei sovi yleiseen ihanteeseen? Vaihda ihannetta! Minulla on ihan julmetun rotevat reidet. Reiteni ympärysmitta on varmaan suurempi kuin Schwarzeneggerin hauis! Se on tosiasia. En voi muuttaa sitä millään järkevillä toimilla. Jos jäisin kauhistelemaan reisiäni, en ikinä saisi mitään aikaiseksi ja olisin onneton lopun elämääni.
Joten muutan tavan, jolla katson/ajattelen reisiäni. Sen sijaan, että puristelisin muhkuroitani ja itkisin kaiket illat, menin itämaiseen tanssiin. Siellä harrastetaan tällaista:

Olen myös melkein kokonaan luopunut housuista. Ne eivät ikinä istu kunnolla. Sen sijaan käytän hameita ja mekkoja, sillä ne sopivat aina. Tadaa, ei enää mielipahaa! Poissa ovat ne päivät, joina kiskoin tuskanhiessä pukukopissa päälleni makkarankuoria, jotka eivät liikkuneet polvesta ylöspäin, vaikka otin varmuuden vuoksi kokoa isommat.

Kun saavutat tavoitteesi ahkeralla työllä ja vaivannäöllä, et voi muuta kuin rakastua itseesi. Mitä vaikeampaa se on, sitä parempi.
4. Onko mieli matala, etkä vaan voi pakottaa itseäsi hyvälle tuulelle? Anna jonkun muun tehdä se: kuuntele mieltä ylentävää musiikkia. Musiikki on ihan mielettömän voimakas väline.
